Public competition to design the headquarters of the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM)
The design program required different independent functions, which we adopted in our concept plan as part of the formal expression:
- The auditorium with modular rooms;
- The office/management space;
- The civic plaza.
The program also explicitly required solutions that would increase the construction speed.
We established a structural dimension of 7.5 m for the whole project, eventually multiplying it by the commercial dimension of 1.25 m to create empty spaces in the garage and the auditorium and subdividing it to organize the work spaces.
Within this global dimension, the space dynamics and intricacy are enhanced by the main events held by the CNM headquarters: the civic plaza fully occupies the front area of the lot and is connected to the café and the reception, organizing the circulation flow.
Since the introverted auditorium contrasts with the extroverted foyer and the transparency of the management work spaces, we created contrasting volumes and textures that correspond to each space’s function and allow the best technical and environmental performances.
