Project developed for the headquarters of FATMA (Environment Foundation) and FAPESC (Foundation for Research and Innovation of the State of Santa Catarina).
These independent institutions will share their operations in the same building complex. The project guidelines had explicit urban and environmental requirements.
The competition entry we submitted articulated three different levels:
- Environmental: the external metal cladding has perforations of different sizes to allow adequate daylight and ventilation while creating visual transparency with environmental quality.
- Symbolic: a narrow opening filled with greenery on the metal cladding makes the function of the building and the institutions apparent.
- Practical: each institution has its own internal block and the building articulates the surrounding spaces: the ramp amid the greenery creates a new walkway where the sloping site previously compromised walkability.
